Teachers’ Beliefs and Practices Relating to the Use of Tasks in Tertiary English as a Foreign Language Classrooms in China

Task-based language teaching (TBLT) has been recommended in the new College English Curriculum Requirement China (Ministry of Education, 2017) for students learning as a foreign language. Teachers might not, however, implement these concepts their classes. This study aims to investigate whether concept TBLT made its way into EFL teachers’ theoretical beliefs and degree which is being put practice. By using semi-structured interviews classroom observations, this investigated practices three tertiary teachers use tasks The results show that although had positive attitudes toward TBLT, only some activities classes could be classified tasks. seemed influenced by web-based textbooks own reflective practices. provides recommendations developing teacher education programmes based on China.
